[famous_quotes] Just joined the list...
I just joined this group. I love it very much. There are some quotes or
sayings that don't quite make much sense to me because its written in a
way that's like noodles in my mind if that makes any sense?
The first one that truly impressed me is someone couldn't understand (I
think) what chip off the shoulder thing was about. (I just joined, so I
could be mistaken.) However, I saw a few people add their explainations
of what it means and I thought... This is soooooo NICE. There's a lot of
quotes that don't click in right away. There's some that simply just
makes no sense. Then of course there's a lot that make perfectly clear
sense. It was a stroke of luck when I found this list.
I joined Inspirational Quotes oh goodness, maybe late summer or early
fall of last year. I love it, but you do not get quotes on a daily
basis. For people like me, I *need* and *want* and especially thrive on
daily inspirational quotes. Whilst the owner of that list is a fabulous
person, quotes don't come on a daily basis. Its like a withdrawl for me.
Not a good feeling!
This list however, has not just ONE or Two quotes each day but several
to numerous and I *love* it! I enjoy the fact when one or so doesn't
click with me, there's always some that click with me very well.
Unfortunately for me, I'm not able to save all of the quotes that I like
on mh pager (csk; colour sidekick). So what I did was buy the bargain
journals you often find on bargain tables at Borders bookstore. I write
all of the quotes I like in the journal. Its a large journal book. I
think its 8 x 11"... Its hardcover/cloth lined journal.
Its hard for me to organize which guotes go where. But what I think
makes it more interesting is, when my journal is completed and I'm long
gone, it will be in the hands of my daughters who can read and see the
quotes that interested me.
In my "other" journal, (same kind, just a different colour.) Its where I
write my positive and negative stuff. I don't believe in limiting
yourself to the negative things. Somedays you really have lots of
negative things you've bottled dor so long and once the pen starts
going, it doesn't stop until I lighten it up.
Now with this particular journal, I make quite sure that I write only
positive quotes. Sometimes I just write one quote I feel is appropriate
then when I write, the quotation is there to remind me/educate me... It
really helps.
Sometimes I write 15 quotes then start my own journal.
Some of what I wrote now that I look back at it makes me feel bad its in
writing... But then again I have to say.... My daughters aren't
mothers. When they read it when they become mothers someday, they'll see
what my nerves, thoughts were like. They'll see the changes as they've
matured. One thing I want to say to *anyone* who wants to do this....
Please please never say something you can't take back. Please.
I found my biological's mothers' very brief journal purely by accident
so I thought... Why not read it because it was from the early 60's fo
early 80's.... The things she said how she felt about me as her
daughter, etc nearly destroyed me. I absolutely cannot *stand* it when
someone toys with others self-esteem.....
For me, I will write... Oh for example.... When my oldest was 17, she
often dressed and behaved as if she were in her post college years and
it used to make me insane. I would write, everything I say is wrong. And
I would add, when we are *trying* to communicate, she would always (to
this day) start by saying *you* this or that. I would write how the
start of *you* makes me feel. I have tried to tell her to please use
different way of saying something and not to point so quickly.
The one thing that grates every core of my very being is when she'll
say, I'm a lot smarter and a heck of a lot more educated than you'll
ever be. You'll never be as smart or as educated as I am only because
you're Deaf.
I tell her every single human being are brilliant, intelligent, etc in
their own way. Writing and/or speaking does not convey your
intelligence. What it conveys is what comes from within.
Some people sadly will not write for fear of being ridiculed or demeaned
by what they wrote. Writing doesn't have to convey anyone's intelligence
at all. I'm not one to use fancy schmancy words. To me, using fancy
schmancy words doesn't prove anything to me, it also is very cluttered
to me if that makes any sense?
I like keeping things organized, clear, and clean as well as simple. To
me, that's more powerful than being over the top in conversations,
writing, etc. I explained to my daughter she can speak and write what
she wants so as long as she's comfortable with it and it makes her feel
good. I explained to her doing such to thing to aheive the goal of
thinking someone will be impressed is not the way to go. It has the
opposite effect.
Some people are brilliant with beautiful workmanship carpentry skills,
whilst some are the same with fusing glass pieces... But I strongly
believe every single human being each are very intelligent in their own
way. Never put someone down because of their job, the way they look, and
by their limitations if any. I believe handicap-wise none of us have
limitations. We only have limitations if we make ourselves believe we
can't do something. Rubbish. I cannot hear anything at all. I am as Deaf
as a lampost. You'll find people coming up to me and say... Ohhhhh I'm
so sorry.... (Why?!!!!!!!) or you'll get, oh you'll always miss the
sounds of whistling trees, birds singing, waterfall cascading, etc. Why
do people think such things? No! I *can* hear birds sing. I can hear
waterfalls, I can hear trees, leaves, etc. How? Its very simple.
If you own a spa with a stereo system. Or perhaps a soundproof room with
top of the line stereo entertainment system.... Get earmolds made (its a
silicone liquid that's turned into what looks like a consistency thcker
than frozen drink/shake... Its then squeezed thru a syringe into your
ear. It stays in oh about 5 to 10 minutes. Request an earmold without a
tube. It can be done. If they say no, just tell them one of your list
member has that done. Its custom made and only costs about $10 to $20 a
mold. Then, to help silence things a bit more, use ear muffs or one of
those muffs to block out sounds of heavy machinery... You might not be
able to block out sounds entirely. You still might be able to hear
*something*... One friend put a ziploc baggie taped around the ears. Now
go into the spa, turn on the stereo. You probably cannot ear the music
by using your ears. But with the tranducer you'll "feel' the music and
really think you can hear the music as well!
I visualize sounds. So, I don't dare let the word handicap or disability
go near me. We are only disabled by fear and thinking we can't do it.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
I apologise well in advance for the length of this email. Just had to
write to the list and say, thank you so much for this list. Thank you
for explaining quotes not understood to everyone.
And especially for adding more than one quote.
Waiting for one quote in 24 hours or sometimes days is nerve wracking!
When quotes come, its the first thing I look forward to. Smile
Thank you!
